
Enhancing the Experiences of Neurodiverse Students Through Effective Inclusive Supports

The University of Delaware's Spectrum Scholars Initiative empowers autistic individuals and our community on campus and in the workplace. The program is designed to support neurodiverse individuals, with a particular emphasis on assisting autistic students. Services offered include executive functioning coaching, career support, and sensory-sensitive social engagement events. The presenters will provide valuable insights and recommendations to other campus programs and initiatives aimed at effectively supporting neurodiverse students.
Learning Outcomes
1. Identify appropriate ways to ensure that the spaces and ways in which they support neurodiverse students are sensory appropriate
2. Construct engagement activities for autistic students in an inclusive, accessible environment

Adrienne Cornish Lucas
Assistant Director
University of Delaware
Adrienne is the Assistant Director for Spectrum Scholars, a comprehensive college-to-career program for UD undergraduates on the autism spectrum. She coaches students one-on-one to help them develop self-advocacy and other skills that are vital to their success. The coaching sessions can cover topics such as executive functioning, academics, self-care, self-advocacy, social engagement, career exploration, and interdependent living skills. She also develops and oversees other facets of Spectrum Scholars including group coaching and peer mentoring. Adrienne has delivered presentations on developing effective peer mentor programs for neurodiverse students, ensuring accessibility in K-12 lesson planning, and fostering inclusive and accessible environments for neurodiverse students on college campuses. Before joining CDS, Adrienne worked as a special/general education teacher in Delaware. Adrienne holds an M.Ed. in Exceptional Children and Youth from the University of Delaware and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore. She also has experience working with adults with disabilities in residential settings, having served as a program coordinator with Delaware MENTOR. Originally from Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Adrienne lives in Clayton, Del., with her husband, two children, and puppy. She loves singing, eating, and spending time with her twin brother and family.

Eryn Cahoon
Academic Program Coordinator

Eryn is an academic program coordinator for Spectrum Scholars, a comprehensive college-to-career program for UD undergraduates on the autism spectrum. She supports students by providing one-on-one coaching focused on self-advocacy, executive functioning, academics, self-care, social engagement, career exploration and interdependent living skills. She also creates different social events every month specifically for students in Spectrum Scholars.

This session counts for 1.0 CSAEd-CORE credit or Social Justice and Inclusion (SJI) continuing education.
NASPA has been approved by the Higher Education Consortium for Student Affairs Certification to provide CE credit for Certified Student Affairs Educators (CSAEd). NASPA is solely responsible for all aspects of this program.
Guidelines for earning CE credit:
No partial credit will be rewarded.
Participants must also complete the feedback survey in the Online Learning Community.
1 Credit is available for attending the live session or viewing the on-demand recording.
To receive CSAEd credit, attendees must complete the feedback survey that offers the certification in each session. Once you have attended all the live sessions or watched the on-demand sessions for which you would like to request credit, visit the Continuing Education (CE) website to fill out the Student Affairs Education Certification Request Form for all the sessions. All certificants must fill out one for the live session and a separate one for the on-demand sessions. Visit the Continued Education (CE) website to learn more regarding deadlines and receive your certificate of completion for the Virtual Conference.
NBCC
This session counts for 1 NBCC credit
NASPA has been approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) as an Approved Continuing Education Provider for live events.
Participants can receive a maximum of 13 clock hours for attending live sessions at this event. All eligible sessions are identified in the “Credit Information” tab at the top of the individual sessions. To receive credit, please complete the “Feedback Survey” found within each individual session under the “Continuing Education” section. Once the feedback surveys for all attended sessions are complete, complete this request form; a certificate documenting the number of hours of live sessions you attended will be emailed to you within two weeks of you submitting the form.
