Instagram. Tiktok. Twitter. X. Threads. Facebook. Reddit. The list of social media platforms is constantly changing and developing, making it feel nearly impossible to keep up. Yet, Health Educators and Health Communications Specialists have suddenly been plunged into a world of algorithms, influencers, and #sponsored posts, with the expectation to become social media experts and strategists in order to effectively disseminate health communications materials. In this presentation, you will learn the basics of creating a brand, monitoring engagement, and strategies to make the most of your social media channels. With the help of the students, effective digital health communication is within reach.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will learn strategies for developing a brand and branding guidelines for their organization.
  2. Participants will be able to describe the basic functionality of social media algorithms and how to measure/boost engagement.
  3. Participants will examine the resources at their disposal and determine how to effectively utilize student employees/volunteers in digital health communications.
